NATIONAL RESULTS

AUCKLAND

Sir Graeme Douglas International, World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze Meeting, Douglas Track & Field Henderson – 8 February 2026

Tiaan Whelpton was on fire in the sprints, racing to New Zealand resident record equalling 100m performance of 10.10.
He had earlier won the 60m chasing the world indoor championships entry standard of 6.59. With a slight tail wind he was through in 6.63.

A split was taken at the 60m mark in the 100m and Whelpton was clocked at 6.55 with a following wind of 1.9mps, under the allowable 2mps.

The 25 year old Christchurch athlete was delighted on hearing his time.

“That’s my ticket to Poland stamped, I can’t wait to do another indoors champs,” he said.

Zoe Hobbs was equally pleased achieving a 60m qualifying time for Poland of 7.18 raced into a head wind of 2.7mps.

Hobbs was later back in action in the 100m scorching down the back straight in 10.99. Unfortunately the wind had freshened to over the 2mps, ruling out a fresh New Zealand all comers and resident record.

Her next competition is on Saturday in Australia at the Perth Track Classic.

In their first competition since competing at the World Athletic Championships in Tokyo in September, Eliza McCartney cleared 4.63m in the pole vault and Tom Walsh was out to 20.80m in the shot put.

Walsh holds the SGD meeting record of 22.67m set in 2018 and McCartney the meeting record of 4.82m set in 2017.

National javelin throw champion for the last three years Douw Botes added three metres to his career best with a throw of 73.86m, moving him up to ninth on the New Zealand all-time list.
Rosa Twyford, the national mile champion, raced to a three seconds personal best of 4:14.10 to win the 1500m.  The next four to finish also set PBs, with Scarlett Robb, Lisa Hellyer and Sarah Hellyer all clocking under the performance standard of 4:27.00 for the World under 20 championships in Oregon in August.
Heptathlete Maddie Wilson followed up a third in the shot put with a personal best long jump of 6.37m, a 20cm improvement on her national title jump in Dunedin last March.
