Hammer Throw at the 2026 NZ Track & Field Championships
Athletics New Zealand is pleased to advise that additional funding has been secured to enable the hammer to be held on the top field at Trusts Arena. This funding will enable Athletics New Zealand to install new mounting points and sleeves, allowing for the installation of a hammer cage on the top field at Trusts Arena. This means the hammer throw will now take place at the Trusts Arena during the 2026 New Zealand Track and Field Championships, not at Mt Smart Stadium as previously announced. We are currently working through the draft programme and will provide more details as soon as they are confirmed.
Changes to the 2026 Combined Events Championships
Following consultation with the combined events community, we are making some strategic adjustments to the 2026 Combined Events Championships to best support international qualification opportunities for the athletes. The event will now take place on 21–22 March 2026 at Mt Smart Stadium in conjunction with the Auckland Combined Events Championships. Thank you to Athletics Auckland for supporting this change in venue and competition date.
This change ensures that the championships fall within the qualification window for the 2027 World Athletics Championships, giving our athletes two national championship opportunities within the window.
