Athletics New Zealand is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Megan Gibbons and Chris Weaver to the Athletics NZ Board, further strengthening our governance capability and strategic leadership across the sport.
Dr Megan Gibbons
Appointed by the Board Appointments Panel to fill a casual vacancy, Dr Gibbons brings a lifelong commitment to athletics and extensive governance experience. A former national-level athlete who competed at the Oceania Championships, she is a life member of Athletics Taieri and Athletics Otago, and has coached and supported athletes at regional, national, and international levels for over three decades. Her involvement also includes serving as a national selector and leading the Athletics Taieri Club as President.
Professionally, Megan is the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Health Sciences at the University of Otago, overseeing strategic operations across a $500M division. She leads major initiatives in health and safety, capital development, and stakeholder engagement, and has held governance roles with Otago Polytechnic, Te Pūkenga, and national advisory bodies.
Chris Weaver
Appointed by the Board to fill a casual vacancy, Chris Weaver was a former provincial representative athlete for Canterbury and brings a strong commercial background to the Board. He is currently Chairman of Dr Libby Ltd, where he previously served as CEO, and has held senior leadership roles with New Zealand Thoroughbred Marketing, Auckland Racing Club, Lion Nathan, and The Coca-Cola Company.
Chris’s leadership across events and brand development in both sport and consumer sectors brings valuable expertise in sponsorship, marketing, and stakeholder engagement. His appointment will support Athletics NZ’s revenue strategy.
