Athletics New Zealand (ANZ) is pleased to announce the release of the Nomination Criteria for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games (2026 YOG), taking place in Dakar, Senegal, from 31 October to 14 November.
Athletics New Zealand invites applications from eligible athletes, (i.e. aged 16-17 as of 31 December 2026), for the 2026 YOG Long List. The 2026 YOG will have very limited quota spots, and these will be confirmed by the IOC at a later date.
Based on discussions the New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) have had with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), who are managing allocations, we understand that Athletics New Zealand are more likely to receive quota spots, if any, in some of the indicated events below.
Women: 400m, 1500m, Hammer Throw
Men: 110m Hurdles, 1500m, Shot Put
However, long list applications are open to all eligible athletes across all events.
The ANZ Nomination Criteria apply to eligible athletes who wish to be considered for nomination to the NZOC for selection to the 2026 YOG. Athletes interested in being considered for nomination must complete the Application for NZOC Long List Form. We recommend reading the full criteria carefully and reaching out if you have any questions.
